Summer Hairstyles to Beat the Heat

Half Bun

One of the easiest hairstyles is the half bun. With straight hair it can look sleek and sophisticated. A bohemian style can be achieved with curly hair and a looser bun. Create this look by brushing hair back into a mid-ponytail and securing with an elastic. The hair on either side of your head should touch the top of each ear. Twist the ponytail around itself to create a bun in back. Make sure to hide the tail. Pin into place with a some bobby pins.

French Braid

French braids can be a little complicated at first, but once you have mastered the technique they are a great summer hairstyle. A step by step article in Allure can help you get started. French braids are great to wear to the beach or a laid back summer party.

High Ponytail

High ponytails are great for the hot weather, especially when you have long hair. Aside from a casual look, a high ponytail can also have sleek, elegant look. Here is how to create the perfect high ponytail.

Milkmaid Braid

This style is a super-chic way to create an up-do. It can be playful and sophisticated at the same time. It is one of my personal favorite styles. Even though they look complicated they are relatively easy to do in just a few steps. First, you can part your hair in the middle or side using your fingers section your hair into two sides of a roughly equal amount of hair. Then, start braiding the bulk of hair on that side in a classic 3-strand braid, starting just above the ear. Braid it at an angle forward toward the front of you, instead of straight down. Secure the braided section 2 or 3 inches from the bottom of hair, with a small clear elastic. Repeat on the other side. Take both braids up over the head, meeting them together. Pin them in place with bobby pins every few inches along the braids. I usually finish with some hairspray to set the style in place.

Messy Bun

Another easy up-do is the messy bun. This style is perfect if you are running late and need to get your hair out of your face and off your neck. To create this look, brush through your hair and gather hair in ponytail. After that, begin twisting the ponytail and wrap it around its base. Loop a hair elastic around the messy bun you just created two to three times to hold it in place. Finally, finish off with some hairspray. Easy, breezy!
