Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, especially when it comes to fitness. With the dog days of summer behind us, we can now take advantage of the crisp, cool, and more comfortable temperatures that fall brings. Here are some fitness tips to consider to keep you motivated through the season.
Get Outside – Now is the time to take advantage of the weather and get outside before the cold, winter temps set in. This time of year is particularly beautiful with the fall foliage as well. Some great workouts in the fall are running, walking, hiking, and biking. Also, keep in mind that it will now get darker earlier, so if you decide to take that run at dusk, just make sure you use practical safety measures, such as bringing a flashlight or wearing a reflective vest.
Yard Work – Do you have tons of leaves in your yard that you dread raking? Yard work is another way to get in your steps and burn off those extra calories. To get your mind off the grueling task at hand, try listening to some music or a podcast.
Set New Workout Goals – Maybe you got a bit sidetracked and off of your fitness routine this summer. No worries because this is the time to set some new workout goals heading into the winter months. Setting new workout goals can also help during the holiday season when it can be hard to stay on track with diet and exercise routines.
Dressing For The Weather- Sometimes the temperature changes between summer and fall can be a bit drastic, so this is a good time to take inventory of your fitness wardrobe to make sure you have clothes to accommodate the changing temperatures. Think layers, since the weather trend this time of year is cold mornings followed by warm afternoons.
Fall Produce – Are you looking to eat healthier? Fall is also a perfect time to take advantage of your local farmer’s market and indulge in fresh, delicious, and seasonal produce such as apples, pumpkins, squash, and sweet potatoes.
