We recently celebrated our sister, Megan’s, marvelous news that she’ll be expecting a baby boy in January 2022! With the help of the fam, we put together a no-frills baby shower at our family’s cabin on the creek. Since it was at a rustic venue, we opted for a casual menu of soup and sandwiches. Tricolore pasta and fruit salad rounded out the side dishes and a big ass yellow sheet cake with vanilla buttercream icing was the soon-to-be mama’s dessert of choice. A well-adorned charcuterie board was the centerpiece and full of appetizer favorites.
It was great seeing family and friends and many laughs were had in helping to prepare Meg for motherhood. In typical baby shower fashion, we orchestrated a few games and learned some surprising and bizarre facts such as only 5% of women deliver on their due date and pregnant women can have sponge cravings (yes, those things you clean with, some pregnant women actually crave them, a disorder known as pica).
Showered with a lot of great gifts and wisdom, Megan is ready to venture into that crazy and amazing world of being a mother.
*Note: Instead of using a whole fryer chicken, I substituted boneless, skinless chicken breasts and added 1/4 cup half to half to the dressing, which makes for a moister and creamier result.
