It’s that time of year for spring cleaning and my closet is always one of my top cleaning priorities. Do you find yourself struggling with what to wear because your closet is so full? Are there clothes that you no longer wear that are taking up unnecessary space in your closet? if you answered yes to these questions, now may be a good time to declutter your wardrobe. If you don’t know where to start and feel overwhelmed, here are a few tips to help you get started.
- Evaluate your closet and ask these questions – Before you start the decluttering process, ask yourself, have I worn this in the last 6 months? Do I love this piece of clothing? Does it still fit? Am I over these clothes? Asking yourself some of these questions will help you to evaluate and organize what types of clothing need to go and what needs to stay.
- Do a seasonal sweep – A great time to clean out your closet is when the seasons change, since you’re already swapping out your clothes for the different seasons, this will make it easier to keep your wardrobe organized and clutter-free.
- Donating or selling clothes – Consider donating or selling your clothes that you no longer want. This way you aren’t just throwing them away and will be able to donate them to someone who really needs them. You may also consider selling your gently used clothes to a second hand store. In my personal opinion, I have found some of my most fabulous wardrobe pieces at local second hand shops.
- Be selective – Try being selective about clothing pieces that you purchase and try to buy pieces that are staple items, instead of just buying random clothes on a whim. For example, a blazer, jeans, or little black dress are most likely pieces that you will want to keep. These pieces will hold up over time and will never go out of style!
